Herrin-Gear Automotive Group is a multi-brand dealership located in Jackson, Mississippi, right off I-55 at the end of High Street. They like to say they’re on their own little “island” because they’re the only business on that side of High Street, making their campus a distinct and welcoming destination for their customers. The group includes Chevrolet, Infiniti, Lexus and BMW dealerships, all located on-site, along with their Body Shop and Collision Center. The setup allows them to offer a full-service automotive experience, from sales to service to repairs, all in one convenient location.
They are proud to have a team of about 200 employees, many of whom have been with them for over 40 years and many others celebrating 30+ and 20+ year anniversaries. That kind of longevity speaks volumes about the culture at Herrin-Gear. Their employees are not only skilled professionals but also some of the kindest and most community-minded individuals. Whether it’s helping customers or volunteering their time to support the community, their dedication and compassion shine through in everything they do.
Herrin-Gear (HG) Cares, Herrin-Gear Automotive Group’s umbrella for all of their community outreach initiatives, was launched in July 2024, shortly after Shelly Hux joined as director of marketing. Rather than a single program, HG Cares represents a collection of ongoing efforts designed to support, uplift and connect with their local community. It’s their way of saying, “We care deeply about the people around us, and we’re committed to making a difference.”
They refer to these efforts as initiatives because each one is unique — whether it’s a blood drive, a car show, a food collection or a partnership with a nonprofit. Writing a check is often easy, but changing the hearts, actions, thoughts and minds of those around them creates a movement that is life-changing. The driving force behind HG Cares is a shared belief among the team that giving back to the community is not just a responsibility — it’s a privilege.
Recently, HG Cares raised $30,000 for Children’s of Mississippi at their Gear Up & Unleash Car Show, one of the most exciting and impactful events held by the dealership. Thousands of people came out to enjoy the show, and over 200 cars were on display. What made the event even more special is that it was not just about the cars — it was about bringing people together to support meaningful causes. HG Cares works year-round to make the car show a success — attending car club meets, visiting other car shows and building relationships with sponsors and like-minded individuals who want to help others through their passion for cars.
Several nonprofit organizations that the dealership partners with were invited to set up tents and share their missions with attendees. Groups like Say Something Assembly, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 5th Squad, Flamingo Day Foundation and Little Light House were all present. Each organization had the opportunity to speak to the crowd and hand out information, helping raise awareness and encouraging others to get involved.
The event continues to gain momentum, and HG Cares is excited to see it grow bigger and better each year. Their goal is to keep the focus on helping Children’s of Mississippi and supporting all the incredible nonprofits that serve the community. They want people to come out, enjoy amazing vehicles, have a great time and leave inspired to help their neighbors in need.
